Killer Mikes’s R.A.P. Music comes out today. Be sure to pick it up physically or on iTunes. The record was produced entirely by El-P who incidentally has his new solo album Cancer for Cure coming out later this month (I mixed that album also). It was great working with El, Mike, and everyone else involved. One quick story about mixing this record, which I can say is a first for me. The morning that mixing was slated to begin (and of course we were on a tight deadline), a 100 Lb window fell out of it’s fitting and blind sided me in the back of the head as I was walking from it. It knocked me to the floor and put a huge gash in my head requiring 40+ stitches. I think El was already in route to the studio, and I had to tell my girl (who was kinda freaking out that I might die from the blood everywhere) to call him and tell him what was up as the paramedics arrived to get me. Anyway, long story short, I was sitting in front of Pro Tools about four hours later…I have never missed a deadline and wasn’t gonna let this be the first time. Here are some photos from that day (one slightly graphic for the squeamish).

Dr. @ New York Downtown Hospital. Cool guy, and promised me I wouldn’t die.
Please listen, purchase, and donate. I just finished mixing this track for El-P, all proceeds go to helping Mr. Dibbs – a friend and amazing DJ who I was lucky enough to work and tour with during EL-P’s I’ll Sleep When Your Dead time. Like so many of us these days, Mr. Dibbs is uninsured and racking up big bills; he has cirrhosis of the liver.
Video for “Garfield” of the album Are You Gonna Eat That? Pick the record up digitally here.

Hail Mary Mallon’s first album Are You Gonna Eat That? drops digitally today, and physically on June 7th (more info here). Hail Mary Mallon is Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, and DJ Big Wiz. I mixed the entire album and had a lot of fun doing so. As always, I love working with these guys. CyberMix™ was also used for the first time on this project. Also props to Coro, who I unfortunately haven’t got to meet yet, on the killer artwork…this is the first time I’ve gotten my mix credits written as a cartoon bubble. More artwork by Coro below for the Smock single.
Gold Dust Media just released a preview of El-P’s Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 that I mixed. The record comes out on August 3. You can pre-order the record here and receive some extra goodies.

Freebass 808 (Geechi Suede of Camp Lo & Apple Juice Kid) is a great project I was able to mix some some track on, both on their mixtape 7th Galaxy/Psychic Energy, which drops on August 8th, and on their record Liquid Love Spacedust that still doesn’t have a release date but should be soon.
I am having WordPress issues with uploading audio. You can peep the audio here via 2Dopeboyz.

Rakaa’s solo record Crown of Thorns is in stores this week. I mixed Track 12: Mean Streak, produced by EL-P. It’s a great record…highly suggest buying it.
So, I haven’t posted in a while; it’s been a really busy 2010 so far, and I’ve been blessed to be working on mixing some great music. Here are some of the artists that are currently up on my mix bus:
FREEBASE 808
Freebase 808 is: The Apple Juice Kid and Geechi Suede of Camp Lo…fresh out of mastering last week. Some NICE breakbeats on here. Look for their record due out later this year on La Universe.
GREG NICE
…look for the track “Vegas” I just mixed for Greg out on One Haven Music, I’m not sure of the release date, but it’s getting mastered next week. Lot’s of sub-lows in this one; your earbud headphones probably won’t make it.
DIRTY GHOSTS
Dirty Ghosts is: Allyson Baker – Guitar / Vocals, Carson Binks – Bass, and Aesop Rock – Drum Programming / Synths. This is a really dope collaboration, and I’m having a lot of fun mixing it. We are about five songs deep into the record. You can listen to some of the unmastered versions of the songs we finished on their myspace. Also follow them on twitter.
PATRICK STUMP
Frontman for the recently broken-up Fall Out Boy. In the midsts of his first solo record, where he is doing all the production, writing, and preforming. Real talented guy. We just finished the first mix. LOT’S of ill analog synths. Peep his site and play the video on the page, it has some snippets of the raw played sounds of the track we just finished mixing.
Lot’s of good stuff on deck too, including a EL-P record that I’m starting next week, so stay tuned. I’m going to make it a point to update more often and actually take some photos, etc. Also, keep the email questions / inquiries coming, and follow me on twitter (even though I am a very infrequent twitter(er)).
Peace,
Joey

Right now I’m currently mixing the music for the movie Dewana’s Bridal directed by Ace Norton. Aesop Rock produced all the music for the film. Stay tuned.
