Killer Mike R.A.P. Music

Killer Mikes’s R.A.P. Music comes out today.  Be sure to pick it up physically or on iTunes.  The record was produced entirely by El-P who incidentally has his new solo album Cancer for Cure coming out later this month (I mixed that album also).  It was great working with El, Mike, and everyone else involved.  One quick story about mixing this record, which I can say is a first for me.  The morning that mixing was slated to begin (and of course we were on a tight deadline), a 100 Lb window fell out of it’s fitting and blind sided me in the back of the head as I was walking from it.  It knocked me to the floor and put a huge gash in my head requiring 40+ stitches.  I think El was already in route to the studio, and I had to tell my girl (who was kinda freaking out that I might die from the blood everywhere) to call him and tell him what was up as the paramedics arrived to get me.  Anyway, long story short, I was sitting in front of Pro Tools about four hours later…I have never missed a deadline and wasn’t gonna let this be the first time.  Here are some photos from that day (one slightly graphic for the squeamish).

Updates coming really, really soon….

Hi,

I know it’s been a while since I updated last … while I know it’s really important to keep you all informed, I’ve literally been mixing every moment on a lot of exciting stuff; and sleeping in between.  On top of the mixing, I have a new studio and a lot of new gear…all really exciting stuff.  I plan on doing a mass bulk update in the near future.

Best,

Joey

EL-P “Rush Over Brooklyn”

Please listen, purchase, and donate.  I just finished mixing this track for El-P, all proceeds go to helping Mr. Dibbs – a friend and amazing DJ who I was lucky enough to work and tour with during EL-P’s I’ll Sleep When Your Dead time.  Like so many of us these days, Mr. Dibbs is uninsured and racking up big bills; he has cirrhosis of the liver.

Hail Mary Mallon – Garfield

Video for “Garfield” of the album Are You Gonna Eat That? Pick the record up digitally here.

Are You Gonna Eat That?

Hail Mary Mallon’s first album Are You Gonna Eat That? drops digitally today, and physically on June 7th (more info here).  Hail Mary Mallon is Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, and DJ Big Wiz.  I mixed the entire album and had a lot of fun doing so.  As always, I love working with these guys.  CyberMix™ was also used for the first time on this project.  Also props to Coro, who I unfortunately haven’t got to meet yet, on the killer artwork…this is the first time I’ve gotten my mix credits written as a cartoon bubble.  More artwork by Coro below for the Smock single.

Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 Preview Trailer

Gold Dust Media just released a preview of El-P’s Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 that I mixed.  The record comes out on August 3.  You can pre-order the record here and receive some extra goodies.

Freebase 808 – Telling On Your Friends

Freebass 808 (Geechi Suede of Camp Lo & Apple Juice Kid) is a great project I was able to mix some some track on, both on their mixtape 7th Galaxy/Psychic Energy, which drops on August 8th, and on their record Liquid Love Spacedust that still doesn’t have a release date but should be soon.

I am having WordPress issues with uploading audio.  You can peep the audio here via 2Dopeboyz.

Rakaa – Crown of Thorns

Rakaa’s solo record Crown of Thorns is in stores this week.  I mixed Track 12: Mean Streak, produced by EL-P.  It’s a great record…highly suggest buying it.

El-P- Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3

I recently just finished working with EL-P, mixing the Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 record.  If you’re not a fan driving bass lines, analog synths and knocking beats, this record probably isn’t for you; if you are however, make sure you cop this when it comes out.  More info here, and here.

Rakaa – Crown of Thorns

The artwork and track list for Rakaa’s Crown of Thorns was just announced.  I mixed the EL-P produced track “Mean Streak”.  More info here:
