So, I haven’t posted in a while; it’s been a really busy 2010 so far, and I’ve been blessed to be working on mixing some great music. Here are some of the artists that are currently up on my mix bus:
FREEBASE 808
Freebase 808 is: The Apple Juice Kid and Geechi Suede of Camp Lo…fresh out of mastering last week. Some NICE breakbeats on here. Look for their record due out later this year on La Universe.
GREG NICE
…look for the track “Vegas” I just mixed for Greg out on One Haven Music, I’m not sure of the release date, but it’s getting mastered next week. Lot’s of sub-lows in this one; your earbud headphones probably won’t make it.
DIRTY GHOSTS
Dirty Ghosts is: Allyson Baker – Guitar / Vocals, Carson Binks – Bass, and Aesop Rock – Drum Programming / Synths. This is a really dope collaboration, and I’m having a lot of fun mixing it. We are about five songs deep into the record. You can listen to some of the unmastered versions of the songs we finished on their myspace. Also follow them on twitter.
PATRICK STUMP
Frontman for the recently broken-up Fall Out Boy. In the midsts of his first solo record, where he is doing all the production, writing, and preforming. Real talented guy. We just finished the first mix. LOT’S of ill analog synths. Peep his site and play the video on the page, it has some snippets of the raw played sounds of the track we just finished mixing.
Lot’s of good stuff on deck too, including a EL-P record that I’m starting next week, so stay tuned. I’m going to make it a point to update more often and actually take some photos, etc. Also, keep the email questions / inquiries coming, and follow me on twitter (even though I am a very infrequent twitter(er)).
Peace,
Joey

Right now I’m currently mixing the music for the movie Dewana’s Bridal directed by Ace Norton. Aesop Rock produced all the music for the film. Stay tuned.

Felt 3 record was just announced. It’s going to be released on 11.17.09 on Rhymesayers Entertainment. I mixed the entire record and enjoyed working with everyone involved. Aesop Rock produced the record and came down to my studio for final mixing; it was an intense process given the number of tracks and the deadline we had, which was finishing before Slug and Murs left for their tours. It’s a great record, be sure to pick it up when it comes out. Below is a picture of Aesop Rock we snapped at the studio midway through mixing; he’s wearing his special secret production laser spectacles.

Definitive Jux Presents 4 was recently released. I mixed 8 of the 12 tracks on the compilation. The tracks I mixed are:
1. Weatherman – “Reports of a Possible Kidnapping”
2. Camu Tao – “When You’re Going Down”
3. Despot – “Look Alive”
4. Cage – “Worm In Her Vein”
7. Hail Mary Mallon – “D-Up”
8. Central Services – “We Do The Work, You Do The Pleasure”
9. Rob Sonic – “Domestic Animals”
12. El-P – “How To Serve Man”

Welcome to joeyraia.com! It’s been years trying to get a site together (a combination of not having the time and site developers going awol) and it’s finally happening. Much thanks to Ivee Studios for working with me and getting this cranked out. The main purpose of the site is to provide information about me, my studio, equipment I use, and things I’ve worked on. I’ll also be providing a “News” section as to current happenings in the studio, as well as things I may have come across that I’ve found interesting and want to share. I also get a lot of emails and Twitter (@joeyraia) messages with technical questions regarding mixing and inquires as to how I get certain sounds. Keep getting at me, and I’ll post stuff like this in the news section from time to time, maybe with some video and audio. Anyway, I hope you find this site informative, and maybe even entertaining at times. I’ll try to add to the site as often as I can, and please feel free to contact me via email or Twitter with anything in particular you may want me to discuss, or specific questions you may want answered.
I leave you with these two images of very serious folk and their early listening devices…
All The Best,
Joey
